It is important that the general public is aware of the imminent threat of global warming. Its effects are no longer theoretical, they are now tangible; 2005 was one of the hottest years on record and scientists in Illinois are predicting even more severe droughts like last summer’s. Politicians, the general public and corporations have a role in reducing global warming related pollution. It is crucial that our elected representatives resist pressure from elite corporate interests and commit the state of Illinois to an 80 percent reduction in global warming pollution. Our children’s future must not be held to ransom in the pursuit of profit.
