Changes to plans for an Aldi and other future retail development swayed the Village Board on Wednesday night to support the project.
The elevation of the building was revised as well as color changes to the building materials and other aesthetics items such as adding false windows. Mayor Fred Dewald said he was pleased with the changes and was not concerned after suggesting them when the company threatened to sue him. The village and the developers, The Shiner Group, were able to sit down and come to an agreement. The grocery store will be located at Airport and Weber Roads. The 4.1-acre site includes a 15,366 square-foot Aldi and 15,000 square feet for future tenants.
Trustee Edward McCartan said he is pleased to see another option for grocery shopping, but said he would still like to see a grocery store secured “about 5 miles southeast” in the downtown redevelopment district where there is a dearth of such stores.
The board also reviewed the concept plan for a 217,572 square foot Wal-Mart at the southwest corner of Airport and Weber Roads.
