Iris V. Hoekstra, nee Sweeney, 83 years old. Beloved wife of the late Bernard; loving mother of Barney F. Hoekstra and Pamela (James) Lowery; proud grandmother of James, Douglas and Todd; dear sister of Eugenia (the late Harvey) Beaver and the late Frances (Bill) Chambers; fond aunt of Becky (Steve) Klein and Pat Chambers; great-aunt of Heidi and Mark Klein. Funeral Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Morgan Park Presbyterian Church, 110th and Longwood Dr., Chicago. Interment Chapel Hills Gardens South Cemetery. Visitation Monday, 3 to 9 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn. Memorials may be made to Morgan Park Presbyterian Church. Iris was born and raised on a cattle ranch outside of Craig, CO. She was working with the Red Cross in Denver during WWII when Bernard was passing through on his way home. They were married at Morgan Park Presbyterian Church in 1946. She received her master’s degree and taught elementary school in Chicago and Palos Park for 25 years.
