Sniper fire struck two pickup trucks along Interstate 65 in southern Indiana on Sunday, killing one person and injuring another, state police said. Snipers shot at a southbound truck around 12:20 a.m., killing one of its three occupants. About the same time, occupants of a second truck called police to report a passenger had been shot. The victim was hospitalized.
2 dead in shooting
Gunfire erupted early Sunday outside a Knights of Columbus hall in Kansas City, Mo., killing two 20-year-old men and wounding at least 10 other people, police said. The hall had been rented out, though police didn’t know by whom. Police estimated 25 to 50 rounds were fired. No arrests had been made by Sunday afternoon.
Airplane illness in Las Vegas
A section of the Las Vegas airport was closed after a flight arrived from Denver with 11 sick passengers, officials said Sunday. The passengers and crew on United Airlines Flight 1491 were quarantined for hours Saturday at McCarran International Airport while the plane was checked by hazardous materials experts. No cause has been found.
Crash mix-up victim walking
A woman misidentified for weeks as a college classmate who was killed in a traffic accident has been cleared to walk without a special boot used to help her rehabilitation, according to her family’s online journal. Whitney Cerak, 19, of Gaylord, Mich., was among nine people from Indiana’s Taylor University riding in a school van that collided with a truck on April 26.
