Jean C.S. Yang, nee Shen, 90, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2006. Loving wife of 61 years to Richard; devoted mother of Virginia, Vivian and Allen; proud grandmother of Alex; dear sister to eight brothers and sisters; aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Hangzhou China. Class leader and star volleyball player, member of Zhejiang Provincial High School national championship volleyball tournament. Graduated from Wuhan University, B.S. in Physics, 1942. Science teacher at Nankai Middle School in Chongqing, China. Came to the United States in 1945 to join Richard, arriving in New York City on VJ Day. University of Michigan, M.S. in Physics, 1949. Longtime resident of Orland Park, IL. where she continued a lifelong career of community service. Girl Scout troop leader and Palos Park Community Center Foundation Volunteer. Contributed to the Chicago area Chinese-American community as a supporting member of the Midwest Chinese Student and Alumni Services (CSAS), organizer of the annual CSAS Soybean Picnic for many years in Orland Park, Director and longtime participant of CSAS Chinese Family Camp, now in its 48th year. First Principal of the Chinese Language School in La Grange. Jean was a sincere Christian and led the senior citizen group of the Chinese Christian Mandarin Church of Willowbrook. Founding member of the South Suburban Chinese Church in Park Forest, now in Tinley Park. She enjoyed cooking, Chinese brush painting, crafts, tennis, golf and Bible Study. She loved life, new and old friends, her family and her church. Visitation at the Schmaedeke Funeral Home, 10701 S. Harlem Ave., Worth, IL. Friday, July 28, 2006 from 3 to 8 p.m. Will lie in state at the Chinese Christian Mandarin Church 9 So. 565 Clarendon Hills Rd., Willowbrook, IL. From 9:30 a.m. until time of Service at 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment private.
