I find the City Council’s increasing incursions into Chicagoans’ lives terrifying (“Meanwhile, Fido, beware; You’re next,” Page 1, July 25).

The founding fathers envisioned a country with a decentralized federal government and strong local governments.

But they would turn over in their graves at Chicago’s modern-day mini-totalitarian empire.

I sincerely appreciate that the City Council cares about my well-being, and that of my family and my dogs.

I firmly believe, however, that decisions about my health and private property are best retained by me.

To think of what arena the council will delve into next is disturbing.

The City Council needs to back off these forays into individuals’ lives and concern itself with what it has been charged to do:

Run the government of Chicago efficiently.
