This is regarding the Chicago Tribune article “Kitchens cater to families on the go; Booming industry does the shopping and chopping for customers, making dinnertime a breeze” (Business, July 24).
The article made only inferential reference to the environmental disaster inherent in the dinner industry.
The story states, “When they arrive, the ingredients are chopped and ready to be combined into freezer-proof containers, with cooking directions included.”
And it also reports the quote, “`There is no clean-up,’ said Karen Anderson, 37, a Dinner by Design customer in Elmwood Park. `You throw away the tin pan the dinner is frozen in . . . ‘”
In the future, it would be nice to see a news story chart not only the increase in our caloric intake over the years but also our increased input, per annum, to the landfill.
To the nearest ton, perhaps.
