In “Death issues” (Voice of the people, July 25), letter writer Steven Zahareas said, “I’ve read responses to the issue of the death penalty and it never ceases to amaze me that many liberals do not wish to put people who have committed heinous crimes to death but have no problem killing innocent unborn children through the use of abortion.”

I am amazed that conservatives are pro-life but have no problem in supporting an unnecessary war and are in favor of pre-emptive strikes.

One hundred people a day are dying in Iraq and most of them are people who had no intention in doing harm to the U.S. before we attacked them.
