GOLFERS, IF YOU’VE always wanted to play in the U.S. Open, here’s your chance. The 107th edition of the tournament begins Saturday in Oak Brook. Well, it’s not actually a PGA golf event; it’s chess. The nine-day competition at the Doubletree Hotel will draw some of the world’s top grandmasters, who will play one round a day for a chance to win the top prize of $6,000. A lot of lesser-ranked players will also compete. But there will be golf too. For the 10th straight year, contestants can play in the chess meet’s affiliated golf tournament-a conjoining of the world’s two best games.
