Ashlee Simpson got some rest and relaxation last week in Chicago after canceling a show scheduled for last Tuesday in Toledo, Ohio. “She canceled her shows because she was feeling sick,” Simpson pal and local nightlife impresario Billy Dec said. “She said she had to lay low.”
Instead of partying it up in the Windy City, Simpson spent her time relaxing at the Four Seasons Hotel and shopping downtown.
Simpson shopped at Samantha Chicago in the Gold Coast last Tuesday afternoon and spent more than $1,000 on merchandise, store owner Samantha Mittelman said. Simpson purchased a Rebel Yell T-shirt, a Vince tank top and a couple pieces from Ya-Ya. “She was a pleasure to help,” Mittelman added in an e-mail.
While shopping, Simpson’s song “Boyfriend” came on. “She started dancing around the store,” a store employee said. Simpson returned the next day to pick up a bikini and went tanning at L.A. Tan.
Simpson recovered in time for her concert Wednesday at the DuPage County Fair, where she took the stage after Ashley Parker Angel.

Most MySpacers know that last week the site went down due to a power outage in L.A. While my top MySpace friends and I were having panic attacks, it turns out that Tom Anderson (myspace.com founder and most people’s first friend) was in Chicago. Anderson came to the Windy City last week for a meeting, a source told me. On Monday night, he drank beer with friends at Cabaret. Thank goodness MySpace was back up and running by then.
