The Naperville City Council on Monday approved a plan for 171 multifamily residential units on nearly 30 undeveloped acres near the southeast corner of Illinois Highway 59 and Ogden Avenue.

The development, called Greenbriar Subdivision by Kimball Hill Homes, is subject to two conditions. The council is requiring that the developer provide access to an additional 17 undeveloped acres, and that no more than 50 percent of the townhouses have three bedrooms, to help control the number of schoolchildren. City staffers project that only 31 school-age children will be generated from the site.

The proposal recently was revised with 113 fewer housing units, 7.5 acres for a retention pond, and nearly 8 acres for commercial use along Audrey Lane and the western portion of the site. The developer scaled back the number of housing units in the project to ease the burden on Indian Prairie School District 204.
