There’s a new power struggle in Hollywood, and it’s for the title of No. 1 whipping boy.
In one corner: Mel Gibson, who again apologized Tuesday for making anti-Semetic slurs after his drunken-driving arrest.
In the other: current titleholder Tom Cruise, whose couch-jumping antics and Scientology advocacy hurt his popularity.
Gibson said he wants to find “the appropriate path for healing,” but the damage may already be done. Still, in an unscientific poll on Us Weekly’s Web site asking whose Hollywood career is in greater jeopardy, Cruise led Gibson, 53 percent to 47 percent.
