Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada apologized Thursday for making what appeared to be an obscene gesture toward the stands during Wednesday’s game in Toronto.
Tejada made a gesture after swinging through a pitch in the dirt from B.J. Ryan for strike three and being thrown out at first in the eighth inning. The Orioles lost 4-3.
Heroin suspected in Marlins prospect’s trouble
Former Florida Marlins first-round draft pick Jeff Allison was hospitalized in Medford, Mass., after a friend found him unconscious on a bathroom floor surrounded by what police said was heroin paraphernalia.
A police report obtained by the Boston Globe cited heroin injection as the cause for the 21-year-old right-hander’s condition. Allison was found Monday with a bag with heroin paraphernalia on the floor of the bathroom, the paper said. Allison was released from the hospital.
Twins’ Liriano has 2nd MRI; White on DL
Twins doctors are “optimistic but not totally confident” that left-hander Francisco Liriano (12-3, 2.19 ERA) will return this season after he had a second, enhanced MRI exam on his shoulder Thursday . . . . The Twins placed outfielder Rondell White on the 15-day DL and planned to activate outfielder Lew Ford.
