David Mamet’s piece in last Sunday’s Tribune was a gross oversimplification that did nothing to soothe tensions stirred up by Mel Gibson’s drunken rant, nor did Mamet point out the context of the passages he referred to in John 7 and 8. Jesus was not condemning, nor was he expecting his followers to condemn, the entire Jewish race for the sins of a few low-lifes in high places.
The Jewish chief priests and elders were the ones who wanted Jesus–a Jew–dead.
Let’s not point the finger at all believers of any faith for the abhorrent actions of a few.
