Outfielder Shawn Green, a two-time All-Star who’s driven in 100 runs four times, was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Mets on Tuesday night, giving the NL East leaders one more big bat as they gear up for the postseason. The Diamondbacks sent the 33-year-old Green and cash to the Mets for Triple-A pitcher Evan MacLane.

Green was hitting .283 with 11 home runs and 51 RBIs this season.

Also Tuesday, the Mets said Tom Glavine did not need surgery on his troublesome left shoulder and would be able to rejoin the rotation in seven to 10 days.

Second thoughts in Toronto

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi says manager John Gibbons made a mistake in confronting pitcher Ted Lilly near Toronto’s dugout Monday night.

“In hindsight, he probably should have just gone to the corner of the bench,” Ricciardi said. “I think he knows that too.”

Said Gibbons: “I overreacted. I wasn’t proud about it.”

Surgery set

Giants right-hander Tim Worrell, done for the season, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his throwing shoulder Wednesday.
