Jets running back Kevan Barlow apologized to 49ers coach Mike Nolan for comparing him to Adolf Hitler in a newspaper interview after Barlow was traded from San Francisco to New York on Sunday. “He walks around with a chip on his shoulder, like he’s a dictator, like he’s Hitler,” Barlow told the Contra Costa Times. “If I could take it back, I would,” Barlow said Wednesday.
Baxter gets 2 months
Former NBA player Lonny Baxter was sentenced Wednesday to two months in jail after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of carrying a gun a few blocks from the White House. Baxter, who once played with the Bulls, has been in jail since his arrest Aug. 16.

Anthony sparks U.S. squad
Carmelo Anthony scored a U.S. record 35 points, and the American team overcame a 12-point second-half deficit to beat Italy 95-85 in the opening round of the basketball world championships. The U.S., Argentina and Spain all improved to 4-0 to clinch first place in their six-team groups.
