In a mission that TV character Jack Bauer could appreciate, the White Sox have just completed 24 games in 24 days, during which they went 13-11.

They began the stretch eight games behind Detroit in the American League Central and a half-game behind Boston in the wild-card race. Now they’re 5 Q behind the Tigers in the Central and a half-game behind Minnesota for the wild card.

The final 24-day tally: 5-2 against the Tigers, 2-4 against the Twins, 2-1 against the Yankees, 2-1 against the Blue Jays, 2-2 against the Royals and 0-1 against the Angels.

– Aug. 4: Sox 6, Blue Jays 4. Begin with win over tough right-hander Roy Halladay.

– Aug. 5: Sox 7, Blue Jays 1. Best outing of season by Javier Vazquez, but no gain in standings.
