Regarding your listing of titans that made State Street famous (“Flag of change on State; Carsons closing historic store; new uses for landmark building,” Aug. 26), I feel someone didn’t do his homework or, surely, two more former “titans” of their time would have been mentioned–Mandel Bros., which was on the northeast corner of State and Madison prior to Wieboldt’s, and The Fair department store, a block south of Madison on the east side of State Street. Did these stores leave State Street without any handwringing because we didn’t wallow in self-pity, as we accepted change and were focused on more serious things other than where we could buy the latest fashions?
