Why should the untimely death of an Aussie naturalist-cum-daredevil sadden me so deeply? Though not an especially avid admirer of his, I still feel someone special has left my world. I will miss this quirky adventurer. Steve Irwin somehow allowed me the vicarious thrill of wrestling a crocodile, and his passing wrings real tears from these timid eyes (“`Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin victim of rare stingray attack that shocks his fans,” Page 1, Sept. 5).
