Seattle grabs Pats’ Branch
The New England Patriots ended the holdout of receiver Deion Branch by trading him to Seattle for a first-round draft pick. Branch has been subjected to a $14,000 fine for each day he holds out from July 28, the start of training camp.

Cops arrest former Cub
Former Cub Dwight Smith, a member of the Atlanta team that won the 1995 World Series, was arrested Friday for cocaine possession during a traffic stop outside Atlanta. Smith, 42, also was charged with no insurance and driving under a suspended license.

Wolves hire familiar voice
Former Blackhawks play-by-play announcer Pat Foley will call games for the Wolves, who plan to introduce Foley at a press conference Tuesday. Foley parted ways with the Hawks after serving 25 years with the team and replaces Judd Sirott, who leaves for HDNet.
