Apparently, no one told Glen Foster that Mt. Carmel is supposed to be a football factory.

“Nah, I didn’t play any sports my freshman year. I came for the academics,” said Foster, a solid B student.

In only his second year playing football, Foster showed he is a quick study in and out of the classroom by helping a dominant Mt. Carmel defense suffocate No. 8 Brother Rice during a 31-0 victory Friday night at Gately Stadium.

No. 2 Mt. Carmel improved to 4-0, 2-0 in the Catholic Blue.

Foster, a 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound junior linebacker, had a sack, four more tackles behind the line and a fumble recovery. Against the Caravan’s first-team defense, Brother Rice (3-1, 1-1) could muster only 66 yards of total offense–21 rushing. It didn’t help that starting quarterback John Ingersoll was sidelined with a separated shoulder.

Mt. Carmel running backs Kyle Parker (1-yard run), Tim Brown (27-yard run), Edwin Williams (3-yard run) and quarterback Carter Kopach (1-yard run) scored touchdowns.
