HOME RUN BY JOE TINKER

Schulte Is Presented with Gold Headed Cane by Local Fans.

The Spuds stopped off here this afternoon and played the Stars an exhibition game, and the big leaguers won handily by a score of 9 to 4.

Frank Schulte, who formerly played ball here and joined the Spuds when they were here two years ago, was the recipient of a gold headed cane and a bunch of roses from his friends, who turned out 3,500 strong. The game was one sided from the start, the Stars being badly affected by stage fright at the thought of facing the National league champions.

Cristall pitched the whole game for the home team and was pounded hard, eighteen hits being made off him, but his support was bad and several of the his should have been outs. Joe Tinker lost the ball in the tall grass in center field and made a home run off it. The last inning the Spuds let up in their fielding and allowed the Stars to tally twice on three errors and a hit.

The Chicago men made two runs in the first inning, three in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and stopped with one in the sixth. Helmund, the second baseman for Syracuse, stole the only base during the game. The Chicago team left tonight for Boston, where they open tomorrow.
