Community High School

District 128

The Libertyville High School Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform at the 2007 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival scheduled for March 15-17 in Indianapolis. The invitation was given after a recording of the 2005-06 ensemble was judged by three nationally recognized college band directors. The school’s Wind Ensemble is one of only 10 groups selected to perform at the festival. The ensemble, under the direction of Don Shupe, also performed at the 2001 festival.

Grayslake, District 127

Ryan Ornstein, a student at Grayslake North High School, was recently selected by the Illinois State Board of Education to be a member of its Student Advisory Council. He was one of 10 students selected to join the council this year. The Student Advisory Council is a group of 15 high school students from across the state, charged with bringing the concerns of students to the attention of the State Board of Education.

Gurnee, Woodland District 50

The work of intermediate school teacher Betty Karagiannes will be published by the International Reading Association this fall. Karagiannes’ poem “Words” will be featured among a collection of poems gathered from The Reading Teacher in its October 2006 edition. The poem was first published in the November l998 issue of The Reading Teacher.

Diamond Lake

School District 76

Diamond Lake School will host a curriculum night for parents at 7 p.m. Thursday in the school, 25807 Diamond Lake Rd., Mundelein. Parents can meet staff members and learn about the curriculum and academic programs.

SPECIAL MEETINGS

Grayslake, District 127

The Board of Education of District 127 will discuss the district’s plans for providing special education services to students with disabilities at its meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in Westlake Christian Academy, 275 S. Lake St., Grayslake. The meeting will focus on students who attend private schools and home schools within the district for the 2006-07 school year.
