Roger Clemens pitched six scoreless innings in his final home start of the season for win No. 348. Clemens struck out six and allowed three hits with three walks. He did not yield an earned run for the fourth time this season and allowed fewer than three for the 15th time in 17 starts.

Bob Wickman, who has converted 15 of 16 save opportunities with a 1.19 ERA since joining the Braves from the Indians two months ago, agreed to a $6.5 million contract extension for 2007. “Bob’s impact on our bullpen and team has been obvious,” GM John Schuerholz said.

Mariners pitcher Jarrod Washburn probably will miss the rest of the season due to a torn right calf muscle. Washburn left Tuesday night’s start against the Rangers in the third inning after feeling a sharp pain in his lower leg. Tests revealed the torn muscle Wednesday.

Blue Jays right-hander Roy Halladay left Wednesday night’s game against the Yankees in the fourth inning with a strained forearm. The 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner, who hasn’t pitched a complete season in three years because of injuries, has a 16-5 record.

Brewers pitcher Rick Helling, who spent part of the season on the 60-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow, will have surgery Thursday to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. He ended the season 0-2 with a 4.11 ERA in 35 appearances, including two starts.
