Has anyone else noticed that the dining out (and the attendant tipping) experience has gotten completely out of hand?

Not too long ago, dinner entrees often included a soup or salad, and at times even dessert. Today most restaurants are strictly a la carte and prices have increased dramatically. Add a cocktail or wine at their inflated prices and we are presented with a pretty hefty check.

Does anyone do the math? That 15 percent to 20 percent range is now based on a significantly higher amount.

To mandate a standard 20 percent tip without regard to actual service performed will definitely put dining out at the bottom of my entertainment/recreation list.
