Mel Gibson is trying to resurrect his image by slowly making his way back into the public eye.
Gibson made a surprise appearance Friday during the screening of his new movie, “Apocalypto,” at a film festival in Austin, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The actor/director, who made anti-Semitic comments while being arrested on charges of drunken driving in July, compared the collapse of the Mayan society depicted in the movie to that of America.
“The precursors to a civilization that’s going under are the same, time and time again,” he said.
Gibson’s public appearance came a day after he wore a mask and a wig during a screening of the movie in Oklahoma, so he wouldn’t be recognized.
