– Get ready for a shock: 18-year-old Aaron Carter has broken off his six-day engagement to his older brother Nick’s ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old former Playboy Playmate Kari Ann Peniche. “I got caught up in the moment and proposed,” the younger Carter told Us Weekly in a report on its Web site. Both brothers will appear in the reality series “House of Carters,” which debuts Oct. 2 on the E! network.
– A judge threw out a $10 million civil assault lawsuit Monday filed against Liza Minnelli by her estranged husband, David Gest, who claimed she beat him so badly during alcoholic rages he had to be hospitalized. State Supreme Court Justice Jane Solomon granted Minnelli’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit on the ground that Gest’s doctor had failed to rebut the 60-year-old actress-singer’s medical expert, who said Gest’s headaches were caused by a strain of herpes. Gest’s lawyer plans to appeal the ruling.
– George Takei has agreed to reprise his role of Hikaru Sulu for a 50-minute Webisode of “Star Trek” produced by fans. “World Enough and Time” features Sulu finding himself living half a lifetime on an alien planet, only to return to the Enterprise and find that just a few minutes have passed. The show will be available in March 2007 as a free download from the Web site NewVoyages.com.
– “Fox News Sunday” drew its best ratings in nearly three years for this weekend’s electric confrontation between former President Bill Clinton and newsman Chris Wallace, in which Wallace questioned Clinton’s efforts to track down Osama bin Laden. The talk show had its best ratings since the capture of Saddam Hussein in December 2003, according to Nielsen.
