For the past 25 years, I have worked in small bookstores that could not afford health insurance. But for much of that time, I was covered by my husband’s employee insurance. Six years ago he died, so I (who am in my 50s) have not had insurance.

Fortunately I have been healthy. I have now become a school librarian so I have insurance, but no American should have to worry about what would happen if he or she broke an arm.
