Texas receiver Limas Sweed labored through homesickness as a redshirt freshman in 2004. But coaches now see a different person. “He’s come a million miles,” offensive coordinator Greg Davis said. Sweed basically had to start from scratch after playing tight end in high school. He caught only 72 passes as a prep and would just run until he got open. “I’d be in practice getting jammed by Nathan Vasher, and in the backfield looking at Cedric Benson,” Sweed said. “I was homesick. I was lost. I needed to get tougher. I had a lot of growing up to do.” He has done that. Sweed is arguably the No. 7 Longhorns’ best playmaker, with seven catches for 106 yards and a touchdown and two 100-yard games.
