– Tatana Kucharova, an 18-year-old student from the Czech Republic, won the Miss World 2006 title Saturday in Warsaw. First runner-up was Ioana Valentina Boitor, a 17-year-old from Romania. Australia’s Sabrina Houssami, 20, was third. Kucharova defeated 103 other women in voting by judges and television viewers. According to the Miss World Web site, her favorite food is chicken and her personal motto is “Always be an optimist.”
– Movie critics booed when the top prize was awarded to “Mon Fils a Moi” (“My Son”) at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in Spain, the BBC reported Saturday. Several shouted, “No, no!” when it was announced the movie, directed by France’s Martial Fougeron, had won the Golden Shell, sharing the top prize with “Half Moon,” by Kurdish-Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi. Nathalie Baye, one of the booed film’s stars, won best actress, the BBC reported. It was unclear if she, too, was jeered.
– Actor Tony Danza and his wife, Tracy, have separated after 20 years of marriage, Danza’s rep tells People.com. They have two daughters: Katherine, 19, and Emily, 12.
