Fargo, N.D., guitar phenom Jonny Lang’s glory days — beginning in 1997, when he was 16 years old with a platinum album and jam sessions with blues elders B.B. King and Buddy Guy — are long over. His talent endures, as does his mastery of a certain electric, highly polished funk-rock-and-blues sound, but he’s still plagued with a lack of anything substantive to say. At 25, Lang is into Jesus these days, and sings a nice, humble, acoustic gospel song, “Only a Man,” but otherwise he’s stuck with bromides like “the choices you make might be mistakes, but it’s never too late to turn them around.” His most passionate declaration comes in the soulful rocker “One Person at a Time,” when he complains the radio won’t play him anymore.
