Douglas Cameron Baker, age 25, of Goleta, CA, beloved of Linda Strubbe; dear son of John and Marilyn Baker of Hoffman Estates; loving grandson of John and Lois Baker of Monroe, WI and June and the late Warren D. Cameron of College Station, TX; dear brother of Jennifer Baker and Melissa (Jamie) Howard; loving uncle of Jessica and Drew Howard; and dear nephew to numerous aunts and uncles. Douglas was a 1998 graduate of Hoffman Estates High School. He received his B.S. in mathematics from the California Institute of Technology in 2002, and was a Ph.D. candidate in Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He planned to become a professor of Mathematics. He died in a one-car automobile accident attempting to avoid a coyote in the road. He was returning from the Regional Ultimate Frisbee Competition where his team had qualified for Nationals, to his great delight. We are so pleased that his last day was spent excelling at his favorite activity. Visitation will be at Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. In state at Church of the Cross, 475 W. Higgins Rd., Hoffman Estates from 10:30 a.m. to time of service at 11:30 a.m. Cremation will be private.
