Jessica Simpson is getting props, sort of, from the director and star of her new movie, “Employee of the Month.”
Director Greg Coolidge said he had reservations about casting Simpson as a pretty cashier at a Costco-like store who inspires a competition between two workers played by Dane Cook and Dax Shepard.
Coolidge told the AP he was “expecting her to be bad,” but an acne product commercial she did convinced him she was perfect for the film, which opens Friday.
“Nothing against Jessica, but I had written that part just as sort of a device anyway,” Coolidge said. “It’s really not about her.”
Cook said Simpson was a good choice. “I was really pleasantly surprised …,” he said. “She could hang in there.”
