While brooding over the dismal news concerning world affairs and the ego eccentricities of politicians in the United States, my eye caught the opening sentence of Garrison Keillor’s column in a recent Chicago Tribune:
“My sandy-haired, gap-toothed daughter likes to snap my picture on a cell phone as I’m eating my bran flakes in the morning and brooding over the front page of The New York Times, over which there is now more to brood than ever” (“Mixed feelings on snap judgments; `Smile,’ she says, and I try, but still I look like an ugly white person,” Commentary, Sept. 27).
It brought back memories of breakfast with my own daughters.
The column flashbacks were nostalgic, entertaining and refreshing, in contrast to the events in the current news.
I just wanted to say thanks for the column.
(I’m another big ugly white guy.)
