Sushi options in the western burbs have picked up with the opening of Blu Coral (6320 Illinois Highway 53, Woodridge) in the Seven Bridges complex. This latest by Andy Park (who also owns Starfish in the city) and partner David Yi (Sushi Ai) seats 180 and will offer a mix of traditional and contemporary dishes. 630-719-8808.
And while we’re on the subject: A second Blu Coral is planned for the West Town neighborhood, at 1265 N. Milwaukee Ave. But construction is just getting started on that one.
Dinner with Danny: New York restaurateur Danny Meyer will talk about his restaurants and new book, “Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business” at a reception and dinner sponsored by Chicagourmets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Spiaggia, 980 N. Papa Milano (951 N. State St.) has been given a stay on its execution. Originally told that the space must be vacated by Nov. 2, owner Rosemarie Sciaccotta now has been given at least until the end of the year. So there’s a little more time to visit the place. 312-787-3710.
Tuesdays are now “Cellar Notes” nights at NoMI Lounge (Park Hyatt Chicago, 800 N. Michigan Ave.) From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday, sommeliers Fernando Beteta and Jesse Becker will offer blind tastings of up to 10 wines. Costs are $20-$40. 312-335-1234.
Construction is underway for another Boston Blackie’s (1962 N. Halsted St.), right next door to Tilli’s. Look for an opening in four or five months.
This month, Polo Cafe (3322 S. Morgan St.) will offer “Chef’s Nite” wine dinners 6-8 p.m. each Wednesday, serving a three-course menu with a glass of wine for $33.22. Seating will be in the Old Eagle Room. 773-927-7656.
It’s all about lobsters at Don’s Tavern (9335 Skokie Blvd., Skokie), which just launched a month-long Lobsterfest, featuring attractively priced lobster appetizers and entrees–from a traditional feast with steamed lobster, clams, potatoes and corn to a lobster and bay-scallop chimichanga. 847-677-3424.
A soft-shell crabfest will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Maple Tree Inn (13301 S. Old Western Ave., Blue Island). The all-you-can-eat buffet also will include boiled shrimp, catfish, hoppin’ John and peanut slaw. Price is $25. 708-388-3461.
