– A man describing himself as a “mentor and guide” to R. Kelly is suing the singer, alleging that he attacked him and reneged on an agreement to pay him for a song idea. In a suit filed Wednesday, Henry “Love” Vaughn says he worked for the Chicago star off and on for years. The suit alleges that “Step in the Name of Love” was Vaughn’s brainchild and that Kelly reneged on a promise to give him half the proceeds. A Kelly rep characterizes Vaughn as a “disgruntled former employee and hanger-on.”

– Cassidy is in an undisclosed hospital after being involved in a serious car accident Wednesday night in New Jersey. The rapper was a passenger in an SUV en route to a studio in Yonkers, N.Y., when a truck swerved and struck the SUV, Cassidy’s camp reports. He suffered a fractured skull.

– Tori Spelling and her new husband, actor Dean McDermott, are expecting their first child together. Spelling, daughter of the late producer Aaron Spelling, will give birth in the spring, Spelling’s representative, Jill Fritzo, said. McDermott has two young children from his first marriage.

– It turns out that Keith Richards was sitting on a tree stump–not climbing a palm tree–when he injured his head while vacationing in Fiji in April, he says. “It’s embarrassing, really,” the Rolling Stones guitarist, 62, tells Rolling Stone magazine. “I hit the ground the wrong way, my head hit the trunk, and that was that.”

– News from breakup land: Nicole Richie and Brody Jenner have ended their relationship. “Nicole and Brody are no longer dating but remain friends,” Richie’s rep tells People magazine. They began seeing each other shortly after Jenner ended his relationship with “Laguna Beach” star Kristin Cavallari, and a few months after Richie broke up with Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein.

– The folks at the Sci Fi Channel are not stupid when it comes to their popular show “Eureka.” The original series about a secret town full of geniuses has been picked up for a second season.

– George Lucas said Wednesday that he’s making an animated TV series of “Clone Wars” that could air next year. The series is set during the time when the Republic is fighting a civil war against separatists led by Count Dooku.
