Head to Holstein Park on Sunday for the Bucktown Apple Pie Contest, where you can bob your way around five dozen apple pies prepped by wannabe pastry chefs and local pie pros such as Christine Cikowski from Blackbird. After the judges, including Koren Grieveson (Avec) and Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate), give ’em the once over, the pies are ripe for the picking–taste them at $2 a slice or $15 for a whole pie.
You’ll have to dig a little deeper to score the cream of the crop: The top pies will be entered in a silent auction. All proceeds benefit The Friends of Holstein Park. Other auction items include gift certificates from Bucktown eateries such as Jane’s and a “pie of your dreams” created by Segal. Free admission. 2 p.m. 2200 N. Oakley Ave. 773-255-6828.
