Your article was very timely, as this has been a big topic of discussion lately. Both vehicles and pedestrians are at fault. The walk light at Chestnut and Michigan is very long, yet pedestrians cross against the light, making a right turn very difficult.

Also at the Michigan-Walton intersection, the pedestrians cross while the turn arrow is on, so traffic must wait through several arrows to accomplish the turn. There are plenty of cars that run red lights and turn with people in the crosswalk.
