I Had the Strangest Dream
The Dreamer’s Dictionary for the 21st Century
By Kelly Sullivan Walden (Warner, $14.99 paper)
Kelly Sullivan Walden, a certified clinical hypnotherapist, spiritual counselor and dream coach (dream coach?), says she wants to help her readers “become fluent in the language of your dreams.” She explains how to classify dreams and provides meanings for symbols we encounter in our dreams–nearly 3,000 of them. Even if you don’t believe in dream interpretation, it’s a fun book.
1. Dreams of a lemon symbolize beauty and bounty. And lemonade? Optimism.
2. Bacon? It signifies abundance (as in “bringing home the bacon”).
3. Believe it or not, people do dream about the Dalai Lama; that symbolizes forgiveness, compassion and enlightenment.
4. A ladder can have several meanings. If you’re climbing it, it represents advancing in your life (a ladder of success sort of thing). If you’re coming down a ladder, you’re coming down in life (feeling discouraged or demoted, perhaps).
5. And here’s one you don’t have to be an expert to figure out: Dreaming about zucchini represents a healthy sexual appetite.
