The president and vice president like to deride those Americans who dare to question our disastrous policy in Iraq as exponents of a disgraceful “cut and run” option. Our leaders explain again and again that patriotism obliges us to “stay the course.”
It could be instructive to hear them explain as well what course they personally followed when they were of an age to risk combat during a war that others were conscripted to fight.
Such an explanation could help us understand what they really mean by “patriotism.”
