The Rolling Meadows library’s budget proposal includes a $200,000 increase, with $50,000 going toward new software, officials said this week.
The current integrated library system was installed in 1994. Parent company SirsiDynix of Huntsville, Ala., has new software, Dynix Horizon, which would drive the library’s Dynix Classic into extinction, library Executive Director Dave Ruff said Tuesday. The improved software will force Rolling Meadows to update, however not necessarily with Dynix Horizon.
Ruff referred to the system as “six generations” overdue, given that software improvements are usually made at two-year intervals
“We will go through the bidding process for other companies in the spring,” Ruff said. “The high-end cost is estimated at $175,000, which we will split into two years, with $50,000 of it coming in the 2007 budget.”
The library’s proposed budget for the new fiscal year is $3.3 million, up from $3.1 million last year.
