No, we’re not talking about the Grateful Dead, you hippie. We’re talking about the Mexican traditions associated with the annual Day of the Dead, when the deceased are honored. Although the actual Day of the Dead is in early November, Logan Square’s Fonda del Mar is moving into the mode Friday with an ofrenda (altar) decked out with sugar skulls, flowers and candles. Plus they’re adding a special, $35, four-course menu. Remember the departed over dishes such as crepas de huitlacoche, cilantro-and-serrano-ham-laced crepes stuffed with huitlacoche, chicken breast in pumpkin mole, and pan de muerto, a seasonal bread made with “decorations” that resemble bones. Since Fonda is BYOB, we suggest enhancing your eulogies with a six-pack of Rogue Dead Guy Ale ($9.49 at Sam’s Wines & Spirits). Menu offered through Nov. 6. 3749 W. Fullerton Ave., 773-489-3748.
