Sister Davidis Devine, BVM, 100, died Oct. 14, 2006 at Marian Hall, Dubuque, IA. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 18 with a prayer service at 11 a.m. in the Marian Hall Chapel. Funeral at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Dubuque. Sister Davidis was an educator in Chicago for 19 years at St. Jerome, Sacred Heart, Our Lady of Lourdes, Presentation and Our Lady of Angels where she taught 8th grade at the time of the OLA fire in 1958. She also taught in Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, Wyoming and Pontiac, IL. Sister Davidis was born June 4, 1906 in Lincoln, IL to David and Nora, nee Daniher, Devine. She graduated from Immaculata High School, Chicago before entering the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1924. She professed first vowels on Aug. 15, 1926 and final vowels Aug. 15, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Marie Devine and Sister Leona Devine, OP and brothers, David, Mark, William, Joseph and Matthew Devine. She is survived by a nephew and the Sisters of Charity BVM with whom she shared life for 82 years. Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity BVM Retirement Fund, 1100 Carmel Dr., Dubuque, IA 52003.
