I recently vacationed in Vancouver and was amazed at how courteous the drivers were to pedestrians.
Everyone should get a chance to experience such courtesy.
Knowing that is unrealistic, I have a suggestion for how the city can improve the situation for both drivers and pedestrians. Why not have one cycle of the traffic lights in which all car traffic stops and the pedestrians can cross all directions?
No pedestrians would be allowed to cross when the traffic is moving.
This could greatly speed up the traffic and the ability to make right turns on the green lights.
Right now we’re lucky if one car gets through per green light because of the pedestrians.
Improving the flow for everyone would do a lot to improve everyone’s downtown experience.
