Joseph M. Downs Sr., age 85, of Homewood, U.S. Navy Veteran WWII, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer, beloved husband of the late Adelaide Downs, nee Hemenway; loving father of Marilyn Hemenway Downs, Robert J. Downs, Joyce F. Downs and Joseph M. (Gloria) Downs Jr.; cherished grandfather of Joseph III, Shane and Brandon; dear brother of John (Kathleen) Downs, Mabel (late Thomas) Nolan and the late Thomas (Julie) Downs and Raymond (late Kathleen) Downs; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. A native South Sider from “Back of the Yards”, he was a graduate of De La Salle. He was retired from his business, Joseph M. Downs Real Estate Investments. Mr. Downs was a member of the Chicago Athletic Club and Wally Burns V.F.W. Hall. Visitation Friday, Oct. 20, 2 to 8 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 18022 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Funeral Saturday 9:30 a.m. at Ryan F.H. to St. Joseph Church. Mass 10 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre.
