The Tribune has done a great public service with its Oct. 14 editorial “No excuses” on human misbehavior. It puts in question the prevailing pseudo medical excuse: “The mental illness (or brain) made me do it.”
The time is overdue for a revision of the dogmatic mental illness excuse of socially undesirable human behavior.
I fully agree with the Tribune: “Terrible things happen . . . for reasons that are not apparent to mortals.”
The more we go to the brain (or the devil) for explanations and excuses, the further away we are from improving social manners.
