– Actor Haley Joel Osment, 18, pleaded no contest Thursday to misdemeanor drunken driving and drug possession charges in Glendale, Calif., resulting from an accident in which he crashed his car into a mailbox. He was sentenced to 3 years’ probation plus ordered to spend 60 hours in an alcohol rehabilitation and education program.

– Sarah Jessica Parker has canceled her Friday appearance at Macy’s on State Street. The actress has a severe sinus infection and her doctor has advised her not to fly. She plans to reschedule the appearance.

– Gina Lollobrigida, 79, is getting married to a man 34 years her junior. “We wanted for this to happen sooner, but it just wasn’t possible,” said Lollobrigida, who has been dating fiance Javier Rigau y Rafols of Barcelona, Spain, for 22 years. The couple will wed in New York before the end of the year, Lollobrigida said Thursday.

– Michigan natives Bob Seger and Anita Baker will sing before the first two games of the World Series at Comerica Park this weekend, the Detroit Tigers announced Thursday. Seger will sing “America the Beautiful” before Game 1 Saturday night. Baker will perform the national anthem before Game 2 on Sunday.

– Actress/director Sofia Coppola, who is seven months pregnant, will have a baby girl, her spokesman confirmed Thursday. The father is Thomas Mars, the singer for the French rock band Phoenix.

– ABC’s Bob Woodruff is working on a prime-time special and, with his wife, Lee, a book about his painstaking recovery since being seriously hurt by a roadside bomb in Iraq in January, the network said Thursday. The ABC News special, expected to be Woodruff’s first on-camera appearance since he was injured, is planned for next spring.

– Rock critic Robert Christgau has joined NPR as a contributing critic for “All Things Considered.”
