John A. Andropolis, 89, of Sheboygan, WI and Des Plaines, IL, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2006. Born Dec. 17, 1916 in Sheboygan to Andrew A. and Vasilou, nee Polites, Andropolis. He was a graduate of Sheboygan High School, Class of 1935. John was senior account manager of the Frigidaire Corporation, division of General Motors and also Advanced Refrigeration of Chicago. Excelling in sports as a young man, he remained an avid sports spectator and family historian of sports trivia. John is the much beloved husband of Dorothy Metscher Andropolis of Sheboygan and the late Elsie Capelle (deceased 2000); dear father of Laurie Whitman (Owen) of La Grange Park, IL, Jay Andropolis (Cindy) of Algonquin, IL and Robert Andropolis of Montgomery, IL; much-loved Papou of Sam Wheeler, Lizzie Wheeler, Kalista Andropolis, Stephanie Andropolis, Marisa Andropolis and Jason Andropolis; brother of Georgia Jimos (the late Andrew) of Appleton and Dorothy Weyer (the late Robert) of Sheboygan; and was adored by many nieces and nephews who knew him well as “Uncle”. Predeceased by brother, Jacob Andropolis (the late Hazel); and sisters, Catherine Varnick (the late Paul) and Helen Georgatsos (the late George). A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at Ballhorn Chapels, 1201 N. 8th St. Sheboygan, WI. A time of visitation and support will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 1425 S. 10th St., Sheboygan, WI 53081 or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Loving to regale the family with stories of his happy childhood in Sheboygan, John’s sense of humor and fun will be missed by all.
