The Seven Minute Difference

By Allyson Lewis (Kaplan, $20)

If you’re looking for a blueprint to kick your career and time-management skills into gear, financial planner Allyson Lewis’ prescription may be up your alley. Although it gets annoying to see her refer to herself as the “Seven Minute Coach” (and don’t forget the trademark symbol at the end of that title, Bub), Lewis correctly surmises that the majority of us most successfully adapt to change in small doses during a long period. Here she offers constructive ways to alter your life on and off the job:

1. When you identify your passion, it’s much easier to figure out your purpose in life.

2. Write out your goals at the end of each day. You’ll be much more likely to work toward and achieve them.

3. Persevere. “Although many executives can move a project to 98 percent of completion, only a few … finish the last 2 percent successfully.”

4. If you want to achieve more than you ever have, focus on what differentiates you from your competition and let the world know about this edge.

5. “Improving your knowledge of how to read and understand body language can dramatically improve your ability to move beyond your current place in life.”
