UNIVERSITY SCULPTURE PARK TO DISPLAY 3 LOCAL ARTISTS
Three sculptures by Chicago-area artists have been added to the collection of more than 20 outdoor works in the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park on the campus of Governors State University in University Park.
They are: Richard Rezac’s “Frame,” a framing device that takes in the prairie landscape from different directions; Christine Tarkowski’s “Working on the Failed Utopia,” a dome that refers to precolonial Native American wigwams while simulating broken rock, mortar and urban trash; and Tony Tasset’s “Paul,” a monumental depiction of an aged and bowed Paul Bunyan. The works, which are visible year-round, were commissioned by the state’s Art in Architecture Program’s Capital Development Board.
Concurrent with the additions is the establishment of Friends of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park, a volunteer organization of arts professionals that will guide acquisitions as well as enhance public awareness to help ensure the park’s continued development.
